Roman caraway (Cuminum cyminum) is a perennial plant belonging to the Apiaceae family with yellow flowers and small leaves. The plant originated in central Asia and northern India, but is now widespread worldwide and is used as a spice in many cuisines.

The seeds of Roman cumin are the most commonly used part. The seeds are narrow, long shaped and have a distinctive flavour that is somewhat similar to traditional cumin seeds, but slightly more bitter and strong.

It is often used to flavour dishes such as curries, stews, soups and cakes. It is also used in Ayurvedic medicine as it is traditionally associated with a number of health benefits, such as digestive properties.
